LivinRoof Replacement Conservatory Roof Installation In Falmouth
Best Glaze has just completed a LivinRoof replacement conservatory roof installation in Falmouth for Mr & Mrs Goodfellows. We were approached by the couple after their existing conservatory had been consistently leaking and suffering from damp.
After an initial consultation and examination of the conservatory, we found numerous issues that needed addressing, some of them were causing damage to the property so we offered up some solutions to the Goodfellows and awaited to hear from them.

The Existing Conservatory Needed Completely Reinstalling
During the initial consultation we discovered that the existing conservatory box gutter was incorrectly installed, there were parts missing, lead work was incorrectly installed, the window frames were all bowed due to being incorrectly fitted and not being supported under the cills, the wrong sealant was used inside and going black, nothing was level, there was no DPC in the walls, it had numerous leaks among many other problems in a four year old conservatory!
It was agreed that the best course of action would be to take the whole thing down and start again. It was at this point that the Goodfellows decided that they would like a new roof rather than just reusing the old roof as the conservatory was getting too hot for them to use during the warmer months and they had already decided on an Ultraframe LivinRoof.
The Installation Process
Before we begin work on any property we always ensure we protect the home and garden as best we can using tarpolines, dust sheets and ply boards to protect flooring, window boards and the garden. As the internal wall had to be taken down in this case, we ply lined the tiled floor inside and then covered with dust sheets as it can get messy whilst we are working.
The Leaking Box Gutter Was Removed New Felt Installed
The poorly installed roof, box gutter and lead work were all removed, then we pushed back three rows of tiles to install fresh new vapour barrier as this is usally where the old felt will begin to rot away, installing vapour barrier membrane will prevent water ingress and push the water into the gutter where it is supposed to go.
Windows Levelled & Frames Packed It Was Time For The LivinRoof Conservatory Roof Installation
The new Box gutter was now bolted securely to the fascia and eaves, eaves gaurds were installed to guide water away from the eaves and prevent it from being blow back into the roof space. The Box gutter was sealed, insulated and the rest of the roof installed. The conservatory was now watertight on day one of the installation, so it was time to concentrate our efforts on the rising damp which was occuring inside.
Removing The Internal Block Wall
We removed the internal block wall because there was no damp proof course (DPC) installed and the walls had damp issues becuase of this. We removed the walls, tanked the outside blockwork on the inside skin, installed a DPC and then built a studwork inside which would be insulated and prevent condensation and damp.
DPC & Studwork Walls Built
Now that the external wall had been slurry tanked inside we installed a DPC for the inside walls that we built out of 3″x 2″ CLS timbers, these we insulated with Celotex foil back insulation boards and finally plasterboarded with 12.5mm foil back plasterboard.
Window Boards & Plastering
The Window Boards were installed and proped in place to allow the glue to harden.
Ceilings and walls were plastered to create a real room feel.
The Goodfellows could see the conservatory taking shape and were already very happy at this point.
