Liskeard Town & Architecture

Liskeard is an ancient market town and stannary located in the sSouth East of Cornwall. Situated roughly 20 miles west of Plymouth, just 14 miles west of the River Tamar and of course the Devon border. Bodmin moor is just 12 miles to the northwest of the town. Liskeard is actually one of the gateway towns to Bodmin Moor.

The town is at the head of the Looe valley in the ancient hundred of West Wivelshire. Liskeard was the base of the former Caradon District Council and it still has a town council. Liskeard was one of the few towns in Cornwall to still hold livestock markets on a regular basis, these ended in 2017. There are many restaurants, pubs and cafes in Liskeard town, and several of the shops feature Victorian architecture and interior design.

Victorian Conservatory

Solid tiled conservatory roofs

If you were to ask anyone what a conservatory looks like, they would probably describe the classic Victorian shaped conservatory with a bow front, a glass roof and dwarf walls. This classic style is still very popular today as it suits period properties, however the glass roof is being swapped in favour of a solid tiled conservatory roof.

Older polycarbonate and glass roofs are not very thermally efficient, this means they are poor at retaining heat during the winter and at keeping heat out during the summer. Poor thermal efficiency means an un-useable room for most of the year.

A Victorian style solid tiled conservatory roof is thermally efficient and creates a style that suits Victorian period properties. Thanks to the insulating properties a solid tiled conservatory roof creates a room that can be used and enjoyed all year round.
